Government (Civics) is a course designed to increase students' knowledge of the development and operation of the United States government. You will consider the ways in which government in this country is organized, the ways in which it is controlled by the people, the many things that it does, and the various ways that it does them. The American system of government is dynamic and ever changing as can be witnessed by the issues, debates, and election platforms of this year. We, as a country, are constantly redefining the role of government and the principles that drive political action. As young citizens, it is important to have an understanding of the various opinions for the role of our government and how you can participate in and influence the direction this country goes in the future.
I hope you enjoy this class, develop an appreciation for the incredible political system our founding fathers have created, and acquire a desire to fulfill your civic duty to discuss, debate, and participate in our political system.
